Biography
ARTIST STATEMENT
Luminosity is my muse. I can spend hours watching sunlight trace its circular arc through a window, embracing the shifting angles as the seasons ebb and flow throughout the year. Drawn to the people and places closest to me, I photograph intuitively, allowing light, form, color and texture to shape meaning and metaphor into my pictures. The human eye often overlooks nuanced details such as the soft play of shadows dancing on a surface or the tiny veins in a leaf that a photograph can exquisitely reveal.
There is a mystery and a quiet pleasure in making and processing pictures, a practice that deepens my sense of seeing. I am often surprised to discover that there is more in front of the camera than I realized, which challenges my assumptions about humanity and nature. With the medium of photography, I revel in the relationship between observation, perception and existence.

WRITING AND TEACHING
Views, Reviews and Interviews
Since 2015 I have written articles for the online photography magazine What Will You Remember? which was founded by my colleague Elin Spring. Initially, I reviewed photography books, but in 2018, I joined as the Associate Editor and am writing exhibition reviews, interviewing the artists, curators and gallerists that are making and showing photgraphs in Boston and around New England. We have a vibrant community of image makers here, which makes writing about the photography scene a pleasure.
I am an adjunct professor of at Clark University, but I am also available for private mentorship online or in person for critique, portfolio development and writing artist or project statements. If you are trying to organize a large project or want to jumpstart your creativity, then contact me, let's talk about your goals and how I might help you.
