After graduating from high school in Los Angeles, I moved to Brooklyn, New York, and earned a BFA in photography from Pratt Institute where I was immersed in making and printing black and white pictures. At a a time when street photography was in its golden age, I studied with Phil Perkis, Bill Gedney, Ann Mandelbaum and Judy Linn among others. Following art school, I worked as a photography editor at U.S.News and World Report in Washington, DC, and later, as acting picture editor at Yankee Magazine.

With the arrival of two sons, I left the world of magazines and began to photograph my children, their cousins and friends, rekindling my interest in making black and white prints in a traditional wet darkroom. The ongoing series, Small Wonders, an exploration of  the culture of childhood, continues to evolve as my children grow.
